Colt Knost finishes 3rd at Harbor Town using new Odyssey putter
Colt Knost switched into a new Odyssey putter this week, an Odyssey ProType 2-Ball, and finished third at Harbor Town Golf Links—which, by the looks of it on TV, is a place the “Tour Arm” of the Callaway PR department should have put on its tournament travel list. Colt was fourth in the field in putts per GIR (1.6 average) and third in Strokes Gained – Putting (1.949). He was reportedly very confident heading into the week after switching to the PT 2-Ball. Clearly, this was not false confidence…like the beloved Geelong Cats must have had this week against the North Melbourne ‘Roos, but anyway.
In addition to Colt Knost, several others put new Odyssey putters in play this week at Harbor Town:
- An unnamed, not-paid-by-Odyssey player – Metal-X #7 Long
- Stuart Appleby – Metal-X #7 belly
- Another unnamed, not-paid-by-Odyssey player – Metal-X #7
- Trevor Immelman – ProType #3
Flip Face garnering attention on Tour
Odyssey rep Johnny Thompson says that the Flip Face(available at retail beginning last Friday) grabs a ton of attention from players when it’s sitting by the Odyssey demo bag on the practice greens at PGA events. Thus far, only Stuart Appleby has put the adjustable Odyssey offering in play—probably because Tour players get stuff for free from Johnny and can easily carry multiple putters to Tour events. Two top-tier players told said last week that they couldn’t believe a putter could be made to do what Flip Face does and called it the “coolest thing they have seen.” The photo above shows the Flip Face #5. You can tell that because it has a big 5 on the bottom of it.
Beware “The Fang”
Some form of the “The Fang” #7 model in Odyssey lineup comprised 11 of the 29 Odyssey models in play this past week at Harbor Town—38% of Odyssey’s total usage.
Congratulations also go out to Danny Willett, who tied for 3rd this week at the Maybank Malaysian Open on the European Tour that seems to spend a lot of time outside Europe. The 25-year-old finished at 12-under-par for the tournament using a Odyssey White Ice #7 Putter.
