Jacobson Makes Huge Leap In Strokes Gained Putting

So Fredrik Jacobson seems to be having a good week, huh? The Odyssey Staff Pro clinched his first career PGA Tour victory at the Travelers Championship, fueled by a strong performance with his Black Series i #1 Putter. He drained a flurry of putts over the final two rounds and seemed to drop every makeable birdie attempt at TPC River Highlands. Jacobson finished T3 for the week in putting average, and he now ranks inside the top-10 in Strokes Gained Putting.

Jacobson jumped from 26th to 9th on the PGA Tour’s premier putting statistic after his victory. He’s gaining .628 putts per round over the field average this season with the same Black Series i #1 Model in his bag. Healthy putting has helped Jacobson during his great 2011 campaign, and he now sits in 18th place on the current FedExCup standings. He is one of four Odyssey users in the top-10 for Strokes Gained Putting, and the other three are ranked inside the top-5. Here is what these players are using in competition:

Strokes Gained Putting Statistic
2nd – White Hot XG Rossie Putter
4th – White Hot #2 Putter
5th – White Hot XG #7H Putter
9th (Fredrick Jacobson) – Black Series i #1 Putter

Jacobson has really separated himself from the pack on putts from inside 10 feet. He ranks second on the PGA Tour this year with a 90.1% success rate on putts from this range.

Odyssey Pro Fredrik Jacobson Wins Travelers Championship

Fredrik Jacobson

Odyssey Staffer Fredrik Jacobson won the Travelers Championship in Connecticut on Sunday with a final-round 66 that secured his first career PGA Tour win in his 188th start.

Putting is key again for Freddie
Putters
Jacobson is known for his putting and he’s stuck with his Odyssey Black Series i #1 Putter for quite a long time. This week, he tied for 3rd in putts per round, averaging 26.3. He also tied for 11th in putts per GIR, averaging 1.673.

Odyssey owns the top-10 at Travelers

Odyssey putters dominated the top-10 in Connecticut. Here’s how it broke down:
1st – Fredrik Jacobson – Black Series i #1
T2nd – Dual Force Rossie 2
T6th – White Ice DART Mallet
T6th – White Ice 2-Ball Blade
T9th – White Hot XG #7 Mid

New putter and great putting helps non-staffer to best finish of the season

One of the players who tied for 6th switched to the Odyssey White Ice 2-Ball Blade Putter this week and enjoyed his best finish of the season. He tied for 3rd in putts per round, averaging 26.5. He was also fifth in putts per GIR, averaging 1.620.

Jacobson keeps promise to his daughter

Here’s an amusing story Freddie told to the media after his victory:
“We were watching from the FedExCup all the winners when they had the recap after the final event, and everybody was just hoisting trophies left and right, and sitting there with my kids, and you know, my middle one, Emmie, she goes, ‘Daddy, why don’t you have any trophies at home?” Well, I got a couple in Sweden, but they’re in the garage. But I told her, ‘I promise you I’ll get one this year for you.’ And it’s been haunting me. I’ve been on the board; I’ve been asked so many times by the kids, ‘Did you get a trophy this week, daddy? Did you get a trophy?’ Nope, no trophy. But I’m coming home. So I’m excited about that. I’m glad I’m not breaking that promise for her.

Mickelson Puts in New Putter

Mickelson’s Odyssey putter

Golf Putter

Odyssey staff professional Phil Mickelson had a new putter made for him by Odyssey’s principal designer Austie Rollinson. Mickelson’s putter this week was a milled Odyssey White Hot XG #9. It has five degrees of loft and a lie angle of about 73.5 degrees. Rollinson bent more offset into the hosel on Monday so that Mickelson could move the ball back in his stance without de-lofting the putter with his forward press.

Odyssey Putters

Odyssey has huge numbers at U.S. Open

There were 48 putters in play for Odyssey this week at Congressional. The player who tied for 3rd place used a White Hot 2-Ball Putter.

Nationwide Tour winner uses Odyssey putter

The winner of the Nationwide Tour’s Melwood Prince George’s County Open used an Odyssey White Ice 2-Ball Blade putter.

Odyssey Wins Again on PGA and European Tours

Odyssey putter wins again on the PGA TourThe winner of this week’s FedEx St. Jude Classic on the PGA Tour used an Odyssey White Hot XG Sabertooth Putter to win in a playoff. It was the fourth PGA Tour victory in the last five weeks for Odyssey putters. The winner’s putting was the key to his victory. (Since he used an Odyssey putter, I might’ve told you that his putting was the key even if it wasn’t, but in this case it really was.) Need proof? He led the field in putts per GIR, averaging just 1.64. See, I wouldn’t lie to you.

Odyssey users in the top-10 looked like this:

1st – Odyssey White Hot XG SabertoothT3rd – DART Mallet
T3rd – White Hot 2-BallT8th – White Hot XG #7 Long

Once again, none of these players are on staff with Odyssey, so all choose to use an Odyssey putter for free. And I can’t tell you their names, either.

Odyssey wins on European Tour, tooThe winner of the BMW Italian Open used an Odyssey Black Series i #1 Putter to grab his first career European Tour win on Sunday in Turin.

Odyssey putters are…on a roll (Yep, it’s time for a little game we call: “Fun With (bad) Puns.” Wasn’t that fun? You bet it was. There were 40 Odyssey putters in play this week on the PGA Tour. Thirty-eight of the 40 had an insert. That means that 95% of Odyssey’s usage came in the form of an insert. I did the math for you there. You: “Thanks, Tim.” Me: “You’re welcome, friend. Don’t mention it.”

#7 models going ‘like hotcakes’There were 10 versions of Odyssey’s #7 putter in play this week on the PGA Tour, and the attention on this model continues to grow. Much of the attention has to do with the fact that the No. 1 ranked player in the world is using the White Hot XG #7H.

Odyssey Leads All Putters With 26 Worldwide Wins

Odyssey putters have taken a commanding lead in worldwide wins this year. The #1 Putter in Golf has amassed 26 wins across the major golf tours in 2011, 8 more than their nearest competitor. Odyssey putters have earned victories on the PGA, European PGA, LPGA, Champions, Nationwide and Japanese Golf Tours. Most of these wins have come at marquee tournaments and featured clutch putting moments over the final few holes.

Odyssey putters have won the Players Championship, WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, Memorial, BMW PGA Championship and Senior PGA Championship already this year. Three of these five wins were decided in a sudden death playoff, while the match play championship ended with a one-sided 3&2 victory. What’s more, three of the top-5 players in the world golf rankings are using an Odyssey model in competition, including the No. 1 ranked player.

Noren wins Saab Wales Open

Noren wins Saab Wales Open

Alexander Noren

Odyssey Staff Pro Alexander Noren earned his second European Tour win on Sunday by a two-shot margin at The Celtic Manor Resort. The Swede’s victory on the Ryder Cup course finished off a fantastic week, as he qualified for the U.S. Open on Monday. His trip to Congressional in one week’s time will be his first major in the U.S.

Odyssey continues to kick a–!
Another 3-win weekend with wins on PGA, LPGA and European tours

Odyssey won again on the PGA Tour this week. That win, plus Noren’s win in Wales and a win at the LPA Tour, gave Odyssey three wins on the weekend.

The winner of the Memorial on the PGA Tour used a White Hot #2 Putter. There were four Odyssey users in the top-7 at Muirfield Village; none of those players are under contract with Odyssey, meaning they all choose to play an Odyssey putter…probably because they’d rather win than, you not, NOT win. The rest of the leaderboard looked like this:

T2- D.A.R.T. Mallet
T7- D.A.R.T. Mallet
T7- White Hot XG #7H

The winner’s putting was outstanding. He tied for 3rd in putts per round at 26.5 and was fifth in putts per GIR, averaging 1.596.
